A gentle lip press on thy hand, princess,
Merely good manners, standard etiquette,
A tender caress on thy cheek heiress,
To liven thy heart, to bring it respite.
A parting glance to my lordly romance,
Neither a brash or insensitive harm,
A playful dance ‘tis no lech’rous advance,
‘Tis improper for vassals to show charm?
By noble birth born, by fealty sworn,
I observe respect to thee and our Lord,
Less I feel forlorn, may thy heart adorn,
Mem’ry of me should I be felled by sword.
For all my gestures, all my entreating,
A product of this station so fleeting.
