I saw two people. Friend or foe?
Stand at the crossroads - Met by chance?
They stood there chatting, I don't know -
I watch them part and off they go,
Stared straight ahead - shared not a glance.
As distance grew, I wondered why
The two had stopped. Just passing time?
They never turned, no wave good-bye,
No head bowed low or downcast eye;
Perhaps 'twas planned. Who knows? Now I'm
Left to wonder. I can't see
Why two would meet, then walk away
And n'er look back - or could it be
That truth had won. A victory,
Their masks removed and trampled lay
In pieces at the crossroads where
Two people met - The something said
In guilt or sorrow, cleared the air.
There's no remorse, there's no despair,
And not a single tear was shed.
