Yes, humanity requires
That rockets rise and pierce wide light sky
Longing
To go where we have never gone
With hearts both just as light
But dark because the night does not appreciate that choice.
It wants extremes in heat and cold,
It wants movements that are measured in millions of years,
Our fears we stuff into pockets under puffy suits,
Stark helmets that reflect the sun.
But in the end, we most depend
On far more simple things,
A little girl, her hand piercing the air
Asking why and how and where –
Oh how she dreams.
