Cancer Smiles

Bitter woman bitter man left behind to mourn. Smiling faces behind a counter with devastating news to warn. Walking out of the doctors office feeling shaken, tattered and torn. Oh, sometimes they mourn the loss of the old person, for the new person right before their eyes. But let me interrupt this first, for people say that even Cancer poems should rhyme. Let it have some flow, let it keep time. What does Cancer keep? What does Cancer organize? Well, let the person behind the smile reiterize. Bitter man bitter woman left with heart wrenching, gut clutching news. Must now tell the loved ones, but how?

Can someone tell them how?

Tell them what to do? Bitter man bitter woman walks into a Cancer clinic, where they meet Mr. and Ms. smiles, standing behind the counter, all happy and peppy, and oh hey, you should feel that way too! Makes them want to get a bit of Chemo, put it in a cup and throw it in their happy faces, then shoot them with an X-Ray, and put those smiles in their proper places. Bitter woman bitter man said the Cancerous smile; here you are struck down in your prime, and what? But here on Earth only for a while.

Some not even able to save up a single stinking dime.

But you say; Tell us again why this poem or any should rhyme? You are always so angry and bitter, said the smile. So that you want to refuse that too, so you shout; To hell with Cancer! To Hell with rhyme, don't tell us what to do! But bitter man bitter woman, said the fading smile; it is only to make you happy, if only for a while. After all, what else do smiling faces do? Bitter woman bitter man, said the faded smile. It seems as in everything, life too must keep its flow; if only for a while. Like Chemo to kill Cancer, and let the radiation in. And; said the Cancerous grin so bold; A dirty rotten Cancer poem, to force a faded smile; because to be honest after a while; The bitterness gets old.
