As I look back on all those years, some were good some were bad
When I met him I thought he was cute, I fell for him, and I was young and naïve back in those days
We dated and then married; all was good for a while, then he started to drink, at first just a little, but later he would drink and drink some more he drank until he was drunk
But we were still happy, I love him so much, then our life change
First come little Mary, then my son Fred, lastly there was Sally
That’s when things got really bad, but I still loved him so
Over the time he grew hostile, violent and abusive towards us, all the while drinking too much
It became very hard to please this man, but I still loved him so
He would hit me and our kids when he did not get his way, but I still love him so
Demanding and controlling became his way, but I still loved him so
I felt like I had a leash around me, under his thumb he kept me
Then one night after he hurt me so
It come to me in a dream, there was this magic potion this lady handed to me, she said put this in his drink
He drank the potion on the day we went to the ocean
There was a party at this place that overlooks the sea
He wore his best suit that day; it wasn’t until later after we left
That I notice the change, that potion turn him into a dog
Down on all fours he went, in his best suit
When I removed his suit I was surprise, my man was no longer a guy
I then whip out a leash and collar, for my new little girl
Then I took hold of the leash and I was firm; heal my little bitch is what I said as we headed for home
But alas, I woke up; but now I know what I must do
My life would not change until I took charge
When he was gone; I pack bags for me and the kids, I no longer will take this abuse, I may love him so, but not at this price
Through that door we walked, and never had a second thought to look back
Dogs Dream Too..............His legs are moving in his sleep, I guess dogs dream too. Could it be a bad reaction, from eating my left shoe? As he whimpers, I watch and wonder, what kind of dream spell is he under. He's so much like me, my faithful Cur, but I won't let Him on, the furniture. So he sleeps on the floor, right at my feet, & I adore the women, He helps me meet. I won't live without Him, My four-legged friend, For This dog, Thank you Lord, Again & Again...glen rudge
“Run with the big dogs,” she whispered into his right ear.
She offered her palm towards his, and continued to stroke her thumb across the slippery surface of his hand, now moistened from tears.
He was her husband, but in much recent years she couldn’t fathom how he could let his voice not ring out for others to hear,
How he much would rather spend Friday nights curled up by the fire with a withered hardback copy of Whitman than venturing into the city on a Friday night,
How his insecurities were undeniably visible and uncannily hard to fight.
He was an “underdog”, so to speak. A timid mind suited him well. Though, as he re-examined his suit and tie job, he couldn’t help but remember the dreams he had as a child that night.
Thank you Cynthia
Well, Gil you have a knack for storytelling. A surprise ending as well.
Good one Jackie Mead
Colin Clark. Haha. Cute
Glen Rudge. that is a great tribute to a dog. My favorite animal.
Hey, Spot
What a great tie you've got
And a fantastic view
Of your outside loo!
Do you believe what you see
A dog that's dressed to look like you and me
A dog that has such good taste
Surely has a talent that should not go to waste
Put him to work purchasing clothes for the local store
Give him maybe a week then solace he will begin to seek
He'll then know that it's not much fun being a workaholic human
He'll appreciate his life as it was before and beg to be given his bone and home
Back to running free not constrained begging to go out even in the rain
He will truly see that he's the Master and I'm just me

It's a dog eat dog world
And I'm about the business of
Barking and biting until I'm toothless
Anything to prove that I belong in this ruthless
Competition and believe me when I say
That's not just a depiction
I'll bury your winter bones in a hole
Big enough for the whole department
Then show back to work like what happened
Has departed from my recollection
If it's about a paycheck, I'll fetch it
Stay up right if you want to
You'll never catch this
Suit and tie maneuver, so it may behoove you
To get on all fours before that revolving door
Regulates you to chasing tails
And mailmans again

Please No Clothes For the Dog
No dogs on the beach you say?
Well, humans I will find a way.
I will not bark, I will not scratch,
But please no ball or I will catch.
Such a temptation would be great,
Even a frisbee throw would tempt fate.
Itchy collar, suit, dress shirt and tie,
Mama insists but I want to howl and cry.
Too hot for a dog how can a human survive,
Forget the beach we should take a drive.
I should eat the air with windows down,
And walk all paws on the ground.
I am a dog remove these clothes,
Let me sniff things with my nose.
I want to chase a squirrel, but I cannot move,
Maybe she should make a man out of you.

Friday finish everyone runs for the early dash
the doors slam shut swing past one another whoosh whoosh
i wait in the corridor that was once hustle and bustle of rat race,
i look over my shoulder twice and swear i see a cats face
i wait back take my time one small ste at a time heading home
to the dog house.
You can do X this weekend , you can do that, i look over my shoulder
again and swear i see that cat. I pop in the pub for a swifty, just quickly,
On my way home to face work again, the yapping the snapping the breathing of the dragon.
I reach the front door not knowing how ,long heavy breathing acoiding the cars
stopping to relieve myself up a lampost is all i remember ,only because its cold and December,
The door opens wide my instincts kick in i see that damn cat hands on its hips looking grim,
i jump at its throat and shake it real hard its body goes limp no fighting back
I sit all the weekend just smiling and smug i never realised silence can be so good
got up
Monday morning and fastened my tie looked in the mirror with a glint in my eye
knowing when i get home i will be quiet and high .
