This is one of my favorite poems I wrote AGES ago. I put it in a collection and did a test run of self publishing it through Amazon.
Down the Road, Not Across the Lane
The Chessboard beneath me
I a broken pawn
lay on the battlefield
watching as the Red Queen commands
her troops against the White.
Each drop drowns imperfections
as White Roses are painted Red.
The pool becomes bigger, soon Alice
can be seen swimming against the current.
Her innocence stained, she asked the mouse
which way to go. But he has no answer.
The Wonderland is lost
to the reality of Formica counter tops,
and a stainless steel toaster.
One last glimpse at a kitchen floor,
that’s black and white and red all over.
I also downloaded it. Thank you.
Looks like your collection is available as a free e-book on Amazon? https://www.amazon.com/Down-Road-Not-Across-Lane-ebook/dp/B077HP3KP7/ … I just downloaded it… thanks for posting about it!
