I refuse to be a statistic,a black man that could have made it,locked away over some he say,she say
So go ahead and tell your lies,I refrain from looking into those devil eyes.
I refrain from stepping aside,so go ahead and tell your lies, you can say he's worthless, you can say he's down trotten, you can say he's useless, yet still I refrain,so go ahead and tell your lies,
God is on my side he will keep me from harm,he will not let your negative way influence my blessed days
So go ahead and tell your lies and i will forever refrain from looking into those devil eyes

This poem sounds fed up and assertive! On one end, unwilling to feed into someone else's negativity, and on the other, confident that without this person, you will be just fine. Thank you, Anthony, for sharing this poem with us - and your emotions!
