With God’s Help
An old lady sat on a bench, tears streaming from her eyes. I noticed every now and then, she would look up towards the skies. A sniffle would come, every now and again,
And a grimace would appear on her face.
She looked as if she could use a friend, so beside her, I filled the empty space.
I sat silent a moment, thinking the words I should use, Never knowing a person’s thoughts, or if your help, they would refuse.
I looked at her, sitting so helplessly, I started to walk away,
I couldn't ask so selfishly, So I decided to stay.
Then the words tumbled from her lips, As she rested her head, on the ends of her fingertips.
"I don't know what I'm to do, I don't know where I'm to go.
I'm sitting here asking God why He won't tell me though."
"I'm all alone in the world, my bills I cannot pay, so now, I'm sitting here, and all I can think of is to Pray."
"I need some answers, for my questions,
And the thing that I really failed to mention,
I lost my job, I lost my pay, and somewhere, along life's road, I lost my way."
"Things are not really going well,
And nervousness and anger, I try to quell,
But it's so very, very hard to do, When life on the street is so brand new."
"My husband’s dead, died last year,
And though I tried to make it, I cannot forget my fear.
I'm scared of being all alone, I'm scared of losing, my only home."
"Where can I find the help, I need,
Why isn't God listening to me?"
I looked at her, saw the pain and fear, But most of all, I saw the loneliness and tears.
"But God has helped you," I said,
For I'm here to lend you a hand."
Ask him once again, and you'll see He sent you me.”
"I'll help you all I can, and your problems, I do understand, I'll be a friend, and walk with you, And with God's help, we will both get through."
