12 years ago, on this day, the best, of track & field, was laid to rest. An unknown darkhorse would make his way to become part of an iconic moment in sports history. No one at the '68 Mexico games, had never even heard of him. But before the Olympics would come to an end, everyone in the world would know his name. Wearing a badge but short of raising his fist, Peter would join in the silent protest, along with John Carlos and Tommie Smith. A decision Peter Norman would willingly make, ruined his spotlight moment & sealed his fate. A simple gesture would curtail his career, and his country turned its back on one of theirs. All for 2 strangers in whose cause he believed in, Australia's fastest sprinter (ever) will not be forgotten. A hero to many, lifelong friendships, Peter would have no regrets. Peter was raised to believe, civil & human rights for all was the way, and for that, the U.S. Track & Field declared, October 9th, Peter Norman Day.
